Treatment Methods
Medication which is an important part of treating mental illness in some people, is prescribed and monitored by an appropriately trained and certified clinician. Some treatments are available through Hampshire Psychiatry directly. You will be offered signposting and recommendation for those treatments that are not offered. Shared care arrangements with your GP are an option by mutual agreement. We do not initiate controlled drugs including medication for ADHD.
Therapy or Psychotherapy/Psychological therapy as it is more formally known, is a type of talking treatment that is used to treat emotional and psychological illness.
There are many types or modalities of therapy and as many schools of thought around how therapy works. The bottom line is that therapy works and there is a strong evidence base for psychological therapy as a treatment for mental illness and to improve mental well being.
It is important to find a suitably qualified therapist that is the right fit for you.

You may also access NHS provided therapy by self-referring to your local service.
There are other types of therapy such as Speech and Language or Occupational therapy that are also helpful and will be mentioned as treatment options during the course of your care.
